From the dark abyss to the sunlit surface waters, Image Quest 3-D's picture library, PELAGICA, proactively documents and illustrates the inhabitants of the marine realm, with particular emphasis upon the intriguing planktonic communities of the open oceans and the bizarre inhabitants of the great ocean depths. A great website for explaining how tides are predicted around the world. This site also has links to other tidal prediction websites for tidal information worldwide.
Pinniped Fact Sheet
The Pinniped Factsheet provides valuable information on the biology and ecology of the different pinniped species (true seals, sea lions and fur seals and the walrus). Each factsheet contains information on the natural history and distribution of each species along with information on the conservation status and threats to their populations. This is a great resource for teachers. The reading level may be high for most 2nd graders, but should be accessible to 6th graders.
