Professional Learning for Scientists

Scientist Workshops

MARE offers workshops for scientists to learn to improve how they communicate their scientific knowledge and research. These workshops are informed by research on learning and teaching, and draw from our award-winning and highly successful Communicating Ocean Sciences  and Communicating Climate Change courses. We build customized workshops to meet the needs of your specific groups of scientists.

  • Scientists in policy—This workshop includes sessions on public and scientific perceptions of the nature and process of science, how people learn and construct their knowledge of scientific concepts, and effective strategies for talking about science with broad audiences.
  • Scientists in university teaching—This workshop includes sessions on how to improve undergraduate and graduate students’ ability to communicate scientific concepts, introduce science students to the importance of education, outreach and the broader impacts of ocean sciences research, and how people learn and construct their knowledge of scientific concepts.
