The Sea STAR (Students, Teachers and Researchers) program (2004-2005) involved teaching student and teacher pairs from 12 low-performing Bay Area high schools about marine invasive species threatening California coastal ecosystems. The 12 pairs attended an all-day workshop with instruction from MARE staff and a professional research scientist, and also attended a six-day residential program at the UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory where they took part in field work, lab studies, and research on eradicating marine invasive species. Research findings were then presented by the 12 pairs at a Sea STAR summit at the Lawrence Hall of Science.
