Residential Ocean Sciences Research Camp

MARE has led a residential ocean sciences research camp based at the UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory in Bodega Bay, California. Through a previous grant program, middle school students had the opportunity to live and study at a working marine laboratory alongside graduate students and scientists. During the weeklong program, students participated in field and laboratory activities, designed and carried out their own investigations, and presented their research findings in a symposium. Teachers from the middle school worked side by side with MARE staff throughout the week to build their understanding of inquiry-based instruction. Lawrence Hall of Science also offers a similar residential research camp for high school students at Bodega Marine Laboratory.
